Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Nexus launches today with a new monster type
It's already been a big year for the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise, with a big 25th Anniversary Legendary Collection release. Still, Konami naturally has much more for those of you looking to Duel.
Launching today (July 27), the Duelist Nexus set represents the Summer 2023 core booster set. It will be instantly familiar for Yu-Gi-Oh 5D fans, with a focus on Synchro Summoning - but the big new addition is a fresh monster type.

Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Nexus set includes new monster type
As the first new card type introduced since the Link Strike starter deck in 2017, it will be Illusion-type monsters. Unlike standard Monster cards, Illusion monsters can't battle and instead rely on effects to assist in battle.
Nightmare Magician, for example, takes control of any monster it battles. It's not all about Illusions, though, with the Infernoble Knights returning, as well as Synchro monsters like Crimson Dragon, inspired by the 5Ds anime series.
It feels like Konami is happy to keep looking back to its most popular and recognisable sets, and we're here for it - especially since there's every chance it'll push the price of specific cards down.

What's in the Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist Nexus Collection?
There are 100 new cards contained in the Duelist Nexus set, broken down into the following rarities:
- 49 Common Cards
- 26 Super Rare Cards
- 14 Ultra Rare Cards
- 10 Secret Rare Cards
As is tradition this year, a selection of these is available as Quarter Century Secret Rares (24 of them, in fact), while Konami says there's one that's only available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare.
Konami has revealed many of the cards included in its official database, which you can find here.
